Are we Vegan?

Yes, all our products are vegan & cruelty-free. 

Using animal derived ingredients will never be our practice as we swear to protect all our animal friends too. We also want to be super safe with our formulations and avoid any possibilities of disease transfer from animals to humans. We create only vegan products, and will never test on animals.   

Is our product safe?

Are we fragrance-free?

At OLUMES, we are also firm believers of embracing and nurturing what nature gives us, and we would like our products to remain as natural as possible – which also includes it’s smell. OLUMES & Miss OLUMES products are all fragrance free and do not smell of anything, unless its naturally occurring from an ingredient in our formula.

Are we adopting a clean beauty standard?

Yes, all our products are also formulated without silicones, mineral oOil, fragrances, essential oils, chemical UV filters, diethanolamine (DEA), Triclosan, phthalate, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), formaldehyde,butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)  and parabens.

What is so special about us?

We are a clean beauty brand harnessing Kadazan-Dusun age-old beauty secret using Kalalit extract. Old wise tales from Kadazan-Dusun elders share that a few splashes of ‘Kalalit’ water onto the face was the revitalising touch that allowed them to keep their complexions as flawless as ever. All our products – OLUMES & Miss OLUMES ranges are all infused with this special Kalalit extract.

How do you pronounce OLUMES and what does it mean?

Pronounced as (oh – lu – miss). OLUMES means beautiful in Kadazan Dusun Language.

What is Kalalit?

Native to our South East Asian region, ‘Kalalit’ has been used as a traditional remedy for centuries. This heartwood is bursting with a naturally occurring compound called brazilin, and it is where the ‘Kalalit’ extract derives all its remedial abili- ties. Alluring modern medicine to explore the potency of this traditional cure, studies have shown that brazilin does in fact possess biological activities, demonstrating that sappanwood extract works as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and potent anti-photoaging agent too.

What is the right way to use The Satin Cream?

Directions: For best results, melt cream in between fingers and apply to a clean face morning and evening. Use after The Refining Lotion. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Store at below 30°C/86°F.

I noticed the Satin Cream looks and smells a bit different when I reordered it, Why?

The Satin cream formulation contains  95% natural ingredients and is free from artificial coloring, which means that the scent and color may vary slightly from batch to batch. These variations will not affect the product’s effectiveness, and we guarantee that the product is completely safe.

Do I need to use sunscreen ?

The Satin Cream is not formulated with any sunscreen protection, and we recommend to use a separate daily sunscreen or sunblock products to protect your skin from the damaging UV rays.  The Satin Cream should be applied first and once it has fully absorbed, apply the sunscreen as the final step in your skincare routine.

Why is it hard to pick-up the gel cream with my fingers? 

Your finger must be oily or dirty. Please wash your hands with soap and dry it before picking up the gel cream.

Is Clarifying Toning Lotion safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

What is the right way to use Clarifying Toning Lotion?

After cleansing, dispense onto a cotton pad (about 50 cent size) and apply to the face, neck and chest morning and evening. Slight tingling sensation is normal. Reduce frequency if sensitivity occurs.

I feel a burning sensation when I use Clarifying Toning Lotion. 

Do not use scrub, retinol, peeling skincare or other AHA & BHA  treatment with OLUMES. This indicates that your skin has micro tear/wound on the surface (tear or  wound that you can’t see with naked eyes), this happens by using harsh scrubs, peeling products, or retinol based products. Stop using scrubs, or any peeling products for at least 5 days before continuing using Clarifying Toning Lotion.

Why does my Refining Lotion & Clarifying Toning Lotion smell like kimchi? 

Since fragrances are known sensitizers – we do not put any fragrance in all of our products, so the smell actually comes from the mixture of the ingredients itself.

Can I use The Refining Lotion around my eyes?

Due to the inclusion of AHA in the formula, we do not recommend applying Clarifying Toning Lotion too close to the eye area.

Can I use Clarifying Toning Lotion alongside other acids or retinoids in my beauty routine?

Clarifying Toning Lotion is formulated with AHA, BHA & PHA to replace the need for other exfoliators (eg. physical scrubs) and other acids or retinoids in your routine. Thus, we would not recommend using it in conjunction with other acids, retinoids or exfoliators.

Do I need to use sunscreen ?

We recommend to use a separate daily sunscreen or sunblock products to protect your skin from the damaging UV rays. Avoid immediate sun exposure after applying The Refining Lotion.

Caution:  Do not use on burned or irritated skins. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Avoid contact with the eyes.  Use suitable Sunscreen. External use only.

SUNBURN ALERT: The Refining Lotion contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothes, and limit sun exposure after using this product for a week afterwards.
